Brazos Bend State Park

Meet at Park at by 10am
$7 per person charge at park entrance

Come out to Brazos Bend State Park for an enjoyable day hike and brown-bag picnic! Meet at Brazos Bend (or carpool-- arrangements to follow) by 10 AM. Plan to wander around on park trails until 2 PM, stopping to eat somewhere scenic.

Although there is no charge for this event, please RSVP via our website to give us an idea of how many people will be coming.  The $7 per person Park fee is payable to the Park upon entrance.

Science Olympiad 2014 - Call for Volunteers

K-12 STEM Volunteer Opportunity - Science Olympiad Tournament 2014

The MIT Club of South Texas is the co sponsor of a Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament to be held at Lone Star College-Kingwood on December 13, 2014.

We are looking for MIT alumni and their friends and family to help out in several areas:

1. Test writing for Middle School and High School.   There will be two online meetings to help you get started.  There is also an optional Coaches Clinic on each topic that will be held at Texas A&M on October4 to help you learn more about the expectations of the depth of knowledge for each event.  Topics include

  • Anatomy (Cardiovascular, Integumentary, Immune)
  • BioProcess Lab
  • Disease Detectives (Population growth)
  • Entomology
  • Green Generation
  • Dynamic Planet (Oceanography)
  • Fossils
  • Meteorology (Climate)
  • Road Scholar
  • Solar System
  • Air Trajectory
  • Crave the Wave
  • Simple Machines
  • Can't Judge a Powder
  • Crime Busters
  • Bridge Building
  • Elastic Launched Glider
  • Robo-Cross

2. Help running the invitational on December 13.   Volunteers are needed to proctor and grade exams, compile scores and give out awards.
